We went to our local zoo today for their special preschool program call Zoo Tots. The day began with the kids all getting to feed all the birds in the pond located at the front of the zoo. Apparently, my kids are so used to picking up all the left over bird/fish food on the ground from those 25 cent dispensers, that they were too busy to notice the zoo keeper with an entire bucket of food! Once they realized she was behind them and would let them grab as much as they wanted, they took full advantage of it!
The next stop was on the zoo train safari. A train ride was made even better by being a ride through the zoo exhibits. We stopped to throw some oranges to the gorillas on their island and we had to stop to shoo some birds and deer off the tracks.
The train dropped us off right near the classroom building. There the kids had the opportunity to get up close with three different animals. Ellie and Hayden got to touch an alligator, a hedgehog, and a ferret. They were fearless!!! Ellie couldn't stop talking about how the alligator had to have a rubber band around his nose so he wouldn't bite you. Hayden couldn't stop talking about the hedgehog's poop! Yup, that sucker kept going and going and going. Notice the towel the zookeeper had to have to keep everything clean!
