The one thing Ethan requested that we do while he was here was to go to the beach. So this morning, I packed a lunch, packed our gear, and packed everyone into the car to head on down to Pensacola Beach. We've been here for a couple of months now, but it still amazes me that I can hop into the car and in 35 minutes be sitting on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. How incredible it that?! Ethan said that if he lived here, he'd be at the beach every day. Well...let's just say that the very white boy wouldn't be able to handle going to the beach everyday.
Ethan spent most of his time wading out far out into the Gulf. The water was a bit rough for the kids so they spent the day digging in the sand, searching for sea shells ("e ells" is you ask Hayden) and snacking. At one point, Uncle Ethan even let Ellie bury his legs in the sand, until he got too hot. After eating lunch, we drove across the parking lot and went to the other side of the island so everyone could swim in the bay for a little while. Ellie loved showing off her swimming skills and Hayden couldn't resist chasing after any seagull brave enough to land near by.
After a full day at the beach, we shook off most of the sand (Ellie still managed to bring home about 10 lbs. in her swimsuit) and drove home. Once back at the house, Ethan quickly saw that he should have applied sunscreen a second time when I got the kids. The poor guy was fried. My mom always talks about how Alan and I have similar coloring and Ethan is fair, but I never realized how light he really is. Oh well, he claimed. He said he burns bad at least once a year, this year he just waited until the very end of summer!
