We had had a late night last night, but everyone had to drag themselves out of bed because we had big plans this morning. The kids didn't know it but the Doodlebops from Playhouse Disney were performing at MGM Studios. There were only going to be 4 shows today, the first started at 10am and we had lunch ressies in Epcot at 12:40 so we had to get in to the first show or not at all. WE figured to get to the park opening, driving would be the best idea, so we didn't have to fight everyone on the buses.
Sure enough, when we go to the park, there was already a long line formed for fast passes for the concert. I hurried ahead and grabbed a spot in line and Craig and the kids caught up shortly after. The line moved pretty quickly but you could definitely feel the tension from the other parents in the line. One CM was jokingly checking to see if all the parents had taken their "chill pills" that morning. We chatted with her about the fastest way to get to Epcot if we didn't manage to get 10am tickets but had to settle for the 11:30 ones. Her suggestion, take the little boat that travels between the two parks. We were fortunate enough to get 10 am tickets, yay. So with the passes in hand and half an hour before show time, we went to grab some breakfast.
This was our first time doing breakfast on the meal plan so it took a little time to figure out because it it set up really oddly. We had three options: (1)salmon, a bagel, and a drink (2)a pastry, a piece of fruit and 2 drinks or (3) 2 pastries and 2 pieces of fruit. Craig decided that today he was going to take full advantage of Playhouse Disney in concert and behave like a preschooler in the little coffee shop. He got his coffee and turnover and argued (incorrectly) about what our options were. I knew what we could do and was trying to figure out the best way to feed the remaining 3 people breakfast. The CM at the register laughed at Craig and told him to listen to his wife! I finally rounded up 2 pieces of fruit, a bagel, a muffin and some pop and made sure everyone was happy! After quickly eating we went back over to the concert tent for the show. By this time, Craig was even crankier because he managed to dump pop all over the stroller, he was tired and admitted he didn't feel very well. Ellie and Hayden soon joined the cranky wagon and everyone was pouting in their concert seats. Apparently our busy week caught up with everyone at the same time. The mood was lightened a little bit when the Doodlebops entered the stage, but Hayden was preoccupied with dropping his bagel on the floor and picking it up and Ellie announced that she liked to watch her concerts with her arms crossed and her head down.
Well, so much for the exciting surprise of seeing their favorite television show characters live. At least I didn't have to shell out extra money for the occasion! By the end of the show, everyone had loosened up a bit and we were able to go down and see the stage up close.
So after the concert fiasco, we knew it was definitely going to be a day to be taken slowly. We had about an hour before we needed to head over to Epcot, so I asked to ride Tower of Terror one more time. Ellie decided that she was brave enough to try it again and rode with her dad! Hayden and I hung out in the gift shop and he finally got me to buy him some Mickey-shaped lollipops he'd been asking for all week. Ellie's second time on ToT must have been better than her first, because she turned around and rode it a third time with me. She's one daring little girl! Then it was off to Epcot.
We took the CM's suggestion of riding the boat to Epcot. There was no line for the boat, we hopped right on and took a nice relaxing trip to the World Showcase.
With a bit of extra time before our reservations, we strolled around the UK, asked when/where we could meet Mary Poppins, and had a sword fight or two.
Once at the restaurant, the kids continue to run around but paused for a moment to appreciate that we were going to eat lunch "underwater." The restaurant has huge aquarium windows so that we could watch fish, sharks, and sea turtles swim by as we ate. The waitress even gave us a little guide to identify all the different species. Craig couldn't enjoy his meal too much, as he still wasn't feeling well. Hayden didn't want to eat much either but once I let him try "bubbles," AKA my Israeli couscous, he gobbled them right up. Craig did manage to eat all his dessert called a Chocolate Wave which oozed white and dark chocolate. Our waitress told us that a big pickle jar-sized jar of the VERY brandied cherries that were on the dessert cost $220, WOW!!! That's some expensive cherries!
After lunch we wandered around a few more countries in the World Showcase. We were fortunate enough to find Mary Poppins and Alice in the UK. Alice signed the last card in our autograph book-22 signatures!
On our way through Morocco, we got to meet Aladdin (Craig said the most annoying character in all of WDW), Jasmine and Genie. Hayden got a big ol' smooch on the cheek from Jasmine-Craig was so jealous! Since we had run out of pages in the autograph book, we quickly found a blank piece of paper for the all characters to sign. Jasmine wrote her name really big, so Aladdin squeezed his name in and then broke character by whispering to me he could write the trademarked Genie signature, so he wrote it as well. Hummm...don't think he was supposed to do that!
In the USA we heard a wonderful a capella group sing classic American songs. They were amazing and the rotunda they were in magnified their voices even more. In Japan we bought some honeydew melon kaki gori (shaved ice). Ellie and I shared it, Hayden napped, and we waited to see Miyuki the "candy lady".
Ellie was the first one chosen to pick an animal for her to create. She was prepared to chose a butterfly but was told it's wings would break to easily and Miyuki quickly talked her into a pink unicorn. She did amazing, quick work right in front of our eyes, turning a blob of colorless candy into a beautiful pick unicorn! Super cool and free-we're definitely going to come see her again next time we're in Epcot.
Ellie made a suggestion of heading back to the hotel to go swimming and everyone agreed it was a fabulous idea. We rode the boat back to MGM, hopped in the car, arrived at the hotel. We quickly changed into our swimsuits and went down to the super cool baseball diamond-shaped pool. Craig played with Ellie in the water and I chased Hayden around the pool's edge. Everyone commented on how cute the kids were, as I mumbled other, not-so-sweet, things about my child under my breath! Still in our suits, we went to the hotel food court and ate dinner. After eating, we wandered around the different areas of the hotel admiring all the themeing Disney did for the All-Star Sports area. The kids loved playing on the fulled sized football field and climbing on the statues of Donald Duck and his nephews playing tennis in another area. It was sweet to sit back and watch the kids wear themselves out. After a quick bath, everyone settled into bed and lights were quickly out!
