After all our hard work this morning, C and Papa headed off to play a round of golf (little did they know, they were headed straight into the path of a tornado!) and Gramma and the kids went to the Butterfly Pavilion. The Butterfly Pavilion first opened right after I had moved to Denver. It was one of those places I had always wanted to visit, but just never made it to see it. It ended up being a great way to spend the afternoon with my mother-in-law and kids!
The kids had a great time seeing all of the butterflies in the main atrium:
They got to touch sea stars and horseshoe crabs and "investigate" sea life in the under water area:
We took a little class about the "Bug Olympics" and both the kids were chosen to participate:
Both the kids held "Rosie" the tarantula:
E was brave and held "Maggie"' the cockroach from Madagascar. Apparently, she's been desensitized by the AL wood roaches at our old house:
Last was the "Shrunk" room, where we were all "magically" sized down to insect size so we could climb on a spider web, jump like a grasshopper, hang in honeycomb, and watch other bugs do their things:
Whew! It was a busy day, especailly after our night of traveling last night. We were all ready to call it a day by the time we got back to Gramma and Papa's!
