Pumpkin Carving

Every fall Craig's family gets together to have a big pumpkin carving party. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to participate in the festivities since we've left CO. So, this year we decided carry on the tradition in our own way and we invited our neighbors over for dinner and carving! I made a vat of chili, baked some corn muffins, and made pumpkin crisp. We also had homemade mac and cheese and salad.

After dinner we got to work on the orange orb masterpieces. Ellie was all sorts of excited to get going on her pumpkin until I cut the top off to reveal, "ew, yucky pumpkin guts!" She made it clear there was no way that she was going to put her hands inside that gross thing!

None of the other kids were willing to do so either, so there all the parents sat, working hard on cleaning and carving the pumpkins. Well J. (who's 3) did sit diligently working on his pumpkin but he just colored his with a blue marker! Our neighbor C. had brought over a book of Disney pumpkin stencils for everyone to use and Ellie promptly picked out the most time consuming one should could find for me to make-Cinderella. Craig managed to carve two pumpkins, put batteries in the pumpkin lights, and take pictures all before I could finish Cinderella! Not much socializing time for me!

It was so cool to see all of the finished pumpkins sitting on the front step-all lit up! We parents certainly did work hard to make such cool pumpkins. Now, we just have to cross our fingers that they'll last until Halloween in this 75 degree weather!
