Thanksgiving with Grammy & Grampy

My parents came into town to spend Thanksgiving with us this year! It was great for them to get to spend some time with the kids and see the new house. One day we went over to the beach and let the kids grab all the shells Grammy's hat could hold! (Sorry no pictures!) Apparently, the red tide was active, and we all felt the respiratory effects of it. It was amazing how much better we all breathed once we were away from the shore.

While they were here in Florida, my dad wanted to visit his father in Orlando, as he hadn't been down to visit him in nearly 15 years. I had been wanting to sneak in another quick trip to Walt Disney World. While we still had annual passes that were burning holes in our pockets, I wanted to see WDW decorated for Christmas and especially the Osborne Family lights at MGM. Looking at the calendar, we decided the best time for a quick trip would be for us to leave on Thanksgiving day (Thursday) and leave Orlando the following Saturday, since Grammy & Grampy had to return to NY on Monday. Since we would be d riving the majority of the day on Thanksgiving, we had our dinner the night before when C got home from work. All would have been fine, except, the turkey did not want to get cooked! That darn bird took so long to cook, that we had most of the meal with out it! Anyway, we packed all the leftovers in the fridge and got ready to leave bright and early the next day.

Thursday: We had great weather and an easy drive. We arrived at my grandfather's house around 4:30 pm. Apparently there was some sort of communications break down between my father and my grandfather (go figure!) regarding our visit the day before, and we wound up having another Thanksgiving dinner prepared by my grandfather's wife, Mary, and she did not skimp on anything. We had a nice visit, the kids got to go pick oranges and tangerines off the fruit trees in the back, bother the dog and hold the pet gecko. My uncle John was home on break from med school at FSU so it was nice to see him and catch up. I hadn't been to my grandfather's house since I was 15 and it's funny how I remember things differently but still the same--not that that makes ANY sense! After a few hours, we headed out, since we hadn't yet been to our hotel and it was getting late.

Friday: The Magic Kingdom. My parents had not been to Disney World since the a fore mentioned trip to FL when I was 15, so we let them set the agenda. They were the usual, "whatever you feel like doing," so we hauled them over to the Magic Kingdom to the the classic stuff. I think we managed to cover as much of the park as humanly possible on the day after Thanksgiving, all the big stuff anyway!

Grammy & Grampy in front of Cinderella's Castle

Riding the carousel. Notice the gold ribbon on E's horse's tail...it's Cinderella's favorite horse, no other has a ribbon!

Philharmagic!

Grammy, C & E riding Splash Mountain. It's the last time Grammy was dry that day!

H feeding the duck-his favorite pastime while waiting for others to ride Splash and Big Thunder Mt. Railroad.

Waiting to enter the Haunted Mansion-notice Grammy is now wearing C's shirt!

In front of Mickey's house in Toon Town-he even had a tree inside his house!

The castle lit up with icicle lights. It really was amazing to see decorated like that!
